A Primavera planning practice.

For Queensland engineering and construction.

We work in the schedule. Bruce van Rij is the person who builds and fixes the file, and the person you meet. We have sat on the owner side and on the contractor side. We hand the file back. We quote a fixed piece of work or a schedule of rates. We meet in South East Queensland or on Teams.

Owner and contractor

The practice does both. In Queensland, the first conversation is usually with a contractor or an engineering firm that needs a tender or a baseline. Owner-side monitoring, and reviews of a master schedule, are the next conversation. They are not a different practice.

What you can expect, and what you should not

You can expect a file a planner will open. You should not expect a project manager to run the job, a project management office designed and staffed, or Primavera implemented as a software project. If you need someone to run the job, keep that role with a project manager and keep us on the schedule. If there is no planning function and no planner who will own the file, we are the wrong help until that person exists. We assume P6 is there, or that you will provide the licence and access. We do not sell the licence or stand the system up.

Types of work

Recent work includes resource-loaded tender schedules, engineering and shutdown planning, campaign and pipeline planning, operations-readiness planning, and infrastructure planning for major buildings and an airport terminal.

In more detail, as types of assignments have included:

  • Resource-loaded tender schedules for engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of large infrastructure or resources projects
  • Oil and gas project lifecycle planning
  • Engineering planning for mining, power, and infrastructure projects
  • Refinery shutdown planning
  • Operations-readiness planning
  • Infrastructure planning for airports, buildings, roads and bridges
  • Rail project planning
  • Primavera database optimisation

We can also set up and maintain earned value systems, and provide training on Primavera.

A good fit

The work is engineering or construction, and the schedule is something you must submit, accept, or update. You use Primavera, or you have agreed the deliverable is a P6 file and you can provide the licence and access. Someone on your side will own the file after handover.

A poor fit

You want a project management office designed, staffed, and governed. You want software implemented. You want a guaranteed delay reduction, a guaranteed claim result, or a paper that ranks a capital portfolio. You want us to be the planning department because there is no scheduler and no intention of keeping one.

Where we work

We work in person in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast. For the rest of Queensland we take a defined planning job when the brief is clear and travel is part of the fee. We do not keep a local desk in regional cities.
